170113 passes Stoke Prior on 23 June 2026 with the 1M01 08:45 Cardiff Central to Nottingham CrossCountry service. Dominating the background are the twin masts of the Droitwich transmitting station. The BBC's long wave service has been broadcast from this site since 1934, but was due to end just four days after this picture was taken. The vintage equipment consists of a pair of Marconi B6042 transmitters, with a combined output of 500kW. Each unit has a pair of now very rare water cooled output valves, operating with an anode voltage of over 10kV! |
