37251 Marshfield 28 April 1984

37251 gets some unexpected passenger work on 28 April 1984, as it pushes the 10:16 Cardiff to Paddington relief past Marshfield after the train loco, 47462 had failed. Obviously this rear end assistance was only going to be a temporary line clearing exercise, and the train was terminated at Newport. This was of course in the days when the railways were adaptable, and could cope with situations like this. The delay of about an hour while the 37 was found and brought to the site is nothing compared to the delays that would result in similar circumstances today.
