37411 Ystrad Mynach 10 December 2005

The last day of locomotive haulage on the Rhymney line (10 December 2005) luckily happened to be a perfect sunny winter's day, after the fog had reluctantly cleared around mid morning. This was yet another case of the weather forecast being hopelessly wrong. Full cloud was predicted, with the slight possibility of a sunny break. Instead it was completely clear at dawn, leading off course to the fog in the valleys. Once that had cleared there was not a cloud all day. 37411 Caerphilly Castle rounds the curve at Ystrad Mynach with the 2F26 12:15 Rhymney to Cardiff. Note the absence of photographers in the field (it really was empty, they haven't been cloned out!). The local farmer is notoriously anti railway photographer, and nobody dared venture into the field. He will not have anything to worry about now, as there will be precious few photographers along the line from now on!
