The view from South Marston road bridge, looking east on Saturday 16 June 1984. 47096 approaches with an unidentified working. There were no loco hauled westbound trains around this time in the working timetable, so presumably this is a relief working. I remember that the signal gantry in the foreground used to oscillate quite noticeably as a train passed underneath! On the left is Priory Farm, which according to old Ordnance Survey maps, was originally called Tuckey's Farm. Note the well maintained grassy cutting with hardly a tree in sight. Due to Network Rail's lack of maintenance, the whole area is now completely overgrown. |
