47645 Bristol Parkway 6 May 1989

47645 Robert F. Fairlie Locomotive Engineer 1831-1885 pulls away from Bristol Parkway station on 6 May 1989 with the 1M56 11:55 Plymouth to Manchester Piccadilly InterCity service. It is passing the stabled Avon 'Binliner' rubbish train. Bristol Parkway station was opened in 1971, and was the pioneer of the new large out of town 'park and ride' stations. Apologies for the poor quality if this image, but it has been salvaged from an Agfachrome 100RS 6x7 transparency, which in the best traditions of Agfa slide films has now gone completely purple, with hardly a hint of any other colour! Their claims in the 1980s that this well known problem had been cured led me to try a few rolls. A couple of decades have proved that they were wrong!
