47714 Lower Basildon 2 September 1990

A picture of 47714 in the Thames Valley in 1990 would not normally be particularly noteworthy, but the InterCity stock in this picture is a clue that this is something unusual. Whilst some trains in the area did have this bizarre Network SouthEast and InterCity mix, this really is something different. Cornwall could by no stretch of the imagination be called the south east, but that's where this train has come from, as it is the 1A51 10:30 Penzance to Paddington (via Bristol) service, pictured passing Lower Basildon on 2 September 1990.
