With a solitary coach in the then new InterCity livery, the 1A43 11:53 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service passes Cathiron on 20 October 1984, led by 87001 Royal Scot. Introduced into traffic in May 1973, 87001 was the first of a class of 36 locomotives. It was named Stephenson in January 1976, and then renamed Royal Scot in July 1977, then back to Stephenson in June 2003. After being preserved at the National Railway Museum, it now carries both names, one on either side! |
